Constitution is one of the six attributes. Constitution measures health, stamina, and vital force.

Constitution Checks

A Constitution check can model any task relying on physical stamina or to push beyond your limits. Other possibilities include:

  • Athletics. Run, swim, or climb for a long distance or a long time.
  • Performance. Dance, drum, or speak for hours on end.
  • Unskilled. Labor without rest for a long time. Stay awake. Quaff an entire stein of ale in one go.

As the nature of endurance is often passive, Constitution checks are possibly the least common of the six attributes.

The higher modifier between your Strength and Constitution is added to your Grit saving throws.

Constitution Mark

Your Constitution mark equals: 8 + PB + Constitution.

This mark is used by features that originate from your body's inner workings, such as a dragon's fiery breath.

HD & HP

Constitution HD
-1 or lower d4
0 or 1 d6
2 or 3 d8
4 or 5 d10
6 or higher d12

Your Constitution affects the size of your Hit Dice (HD), which in turn affects your number of hit points (HP).

  • Constitution below gives you d4 Hit Dice.
  • Constitution 0-1 gives you d6 Hit Dice
  • Constitution 2-3 gives you d8 HD
  • Constitution 4 or 5 gives you d10 HD
  • Constitution score above 5 gives you d12 HD.

Your HP Limit initially equals your skill level × the size of your Hit Dice. For example if you have 2d8 Hit Dice, your HP Limit is 16. Various game effects can change your HP Limit, but whenever you finish downtime your HP Limit is reset to this value.

  • Taking damage causes you to lose HP. Some effects can restore HP you've lost, but your HP can't be restored above its Limit.
  • If your HP drops to 0 you become knocked out (KO'd) until you regain HP. While knocked out any damage you take reduces your HP Limit, instead of reducing your HP (which is already 0 and can't go lower). If your HP Limit itself is reduced to 0, you die.
