Each creature has six numbers, called attributes, providing a quick description of their physical and mental abilities. Every task you might attempt in the worlds of Shatterspark is covered by one of these six attributes.

Each time you roll the d20, one of your attributes is added to the result. Any attribute for the average person is 0, meaning nothing is added or subtracted to the d20 roll for a typical person attempting a typical action.
However, a person with a Strength of 1 is a bit stronger than typical, while a person with a Strength of -1 is a bit less strong than typical. In a test of raw strength (represented by a Strength check against mark 10), this stronger person would have a 55% chance to succeed while the less strong person would only have a 45% chance. Even if it's less likely, it is entirely impossible for the one with less Strength to succeed where the other failed.
Normal human range for any attribute ranges from -5 to 5, with most people tending towards the center in most attributes. Anyone beyond 5 in any attribute is exceptionally talented, often a result of not only good fortunate but hard training and personal development. Yet, this talent is only one part of what determines success. Your skill can play an even larger role.
